Post: Government Allocates Additional Funds for Migori Industrial Park Completion

Migori: The government is set to allocate additional funds to ensure the completion of the Migori County Aggregation and Industrial Park. Industry Principal Secretary (PS), Dr. Juma Mukwana, announced the decision during a courtesy visit to Governor Ochilo Ayacko, highlighting the government’s commitment to the project, which is currently 70 percent complete.

According to Kenya News Agency, the government has already invested 116 million in the industrial park and plans to inject an additional 100 million in early March. This financial boost aims to meet the completion deadline set for June this year, with the operational phase expected by the year’s end. Dr. Mukwana emphasized the government’s ongoing assessment of the project’s progress to ensure deadlines are met and county residents benefit.

Dr. Mukwana expressed satisfaction with the progress of the first phase of the aggregation and industrial park across 18 counties, noting Migori’s advanced state of development compared to others. He mentioned that efforts to attract investors are already underway, with advertisements highlighting the park’s potential leading to positive responses from investors.

The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry plans to collaborate with counties and the Kenyan diaspora to promote investment in the manufacturing sector. Governor Ayacko emphasized the industrial pillar’s vision to boost productivity, create employment, and generate wealth, underscoring its joint implementation by both government levels.

Governor Ochilo also noted that the Sh.117 million European Union-funded Getonganya sweet potato processing plant will be revisited for potential operationalization to further industrialization efforts. The completion of the aggregation and industrial park is expected to enhance production opportunities in gold mining, rice, and fishing in Migori.

The combined Sh500 million contribution from the Migori County government and the National government for the Nyatike-based project aims to foster employment and development in the county upon completion.
