Post: Government Calls for Collective Efforts in Fighting Drug Abuse Along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway

Mombasa: Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo has called for collective efforts by security teams, the business community, and religious and political leaders in the fight against drugs and substance abuse along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. Dr. Omollo emphasized the significant issue of drug trafficking targeting the youth along this major road, urging relevant authorities and stakeholders to act swiftly to eradicate the menace completely.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Omollo made these remarks during the commemoration of the Chiefs Climate Action Day at Athi River Primary School in Mavoko Sub-county, Machakos County, where a tree-planting exercise was led by local chiefs alongside school children to combat climate change. The initiative, spearheaded by area chiefs, has become a monthly national campaign held every first Friday of the month across all locations in the country.

Dr. Omollo urged parents and teachers to collaborate in monitoring their children's company and whereabouts, remaining vigilant for any changes in behavior or academic performance. He stressed the importance of keeping children away from distractions and temptations that could interfere with their education.

The PS also condemned those exploiting the country's unemployed youth by drawing them into drugs and criminal activities, leading to a loss of potential in a generation of Kenyans. He called on parents and teachers to take responsibility in ensuring children remain focused on education for future prosperity.

On a positive note, Dr. Omollo highlighted the significance of involving children in activities like tree planting to address climate change, promote environmental awareness, and instill responsibility. He noted the tree-planting exercise aims to improve the environment in Mavoko and Machakos by championing grassroots-driven climate action.

Meanwhile, area County Commissioner Josephine Ouko revealed that Machakos County has planted over 2.8 million trees as part of a presidential directive to plant 15 billion trees nationwide by 2032. She expressed confidence in achieving their target of three million trees ahead of schedule.
