Post: Government Championing Rural Electrification

Usenge: The country is set to witness a massive transformation in rural electrification in the next two years courtesy of the government's efforts to connect Kenyans to the national grid. Energy Cabinet Opiyo Wandayi has said the government has allocated adequate resources to ensure that more areas are connected to the national grid as part of its broader efforts to ensure that Kenyans do not stay in darkness.

According to Kenya News Agency, speaking at Usenge village in North Alego location in the Alego/Usonga constituency, Siaya county where he launched a rural electrification programme, the CS said that the government was committed to ensuring that most parts of the country get connected to electricity. The CS disclosed that the government spent Sh409 million on electrification programs in Alego/Usonga during the last financial year, adding, 'I am sure that in the next two years, we will have electricity in most of our villages.'

'This region has never seen electricity since independence and we thank president Willian Ruto and the government for remembering us,' he said. Siaya members of parliament who attended the occasion hailed the government for the rural electrification programs in the region. Alego/Usonga member of parliament Samuel Atandi said Nyanza region was fully behind the broad-based government. 'We want to confirm that this alliance is going to last and will serve its full length beyond 2027,' said the MP.

He said that the current government was committed to national inclusivity and would never allow a situation where resources are shared on the basis of shares and votes. Addressing the occasion, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo called on the Siaya county government to improve its services to the taxpayers, lamenting that services at the county-run hospitals were wanting. Ugenya legislator David Ochieng urged Nyanza residents to support the president for initiating various development projects in the region.
