Post: Government Commits to Addressing Civil Servants’ Concerns, Says CS Ruku

Nairobi: Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has reassured that the government is committed to creating a responsive and inclusive public service. The Cabinet Secretary highlighted that the public service will adhere to constitutional values and deliver tangible outcomes for all citizens.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ruku emphasized that the government is actively addressing issues raised by public servants, such as staff promotions and creating a conducive working environment. He acknowledged the challenges faced by civil servants, specifically delayed promotions and limited career growth, and promised that President Ruto's administration is working to resolve these concerns to foster a fairer and more motivated workforce.

Ruku stated that an effective public service is crucial for the success of any government and the overall development of the country. He made these remarks at the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner's grounds in Nakuru, where he addressed civil servants and the public following a service delivery spot check in various public offices.

The Cabinet Secretary stressed the importance of efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the public service to accelerate the implementation of Article 232 of the Constitution of Kenya. This article outlines the core principles and values of public service, including responsiveness, equity, accountability, and citizen participation.

Ruku urged civil servants to maintain high professional standards, uphold constitutional values, and be conscious of their public trust positions. He assured that the Ministry is working not only to sustain but also to deepen improvements in public service, aiming to build a responsive and inclusive system that benefits all citizens.

Ruku further emphasized that public officers should perform their duties with humility and prioritize the public good over personal interests. He called on civil servants to remain dedicated and serve all Kenyans equally, highlighting that public service reforms aim to enhance transparency and strengthen public trust in the government.

He reiterated the value the Kenya Kwanza administration places on public feedback and pledged that the Ministry will continue engaging directly with citizens to gather firsthand information. 'The government takes feedback from Kenyans seriously, which is why we hold public participation in high regard,' Ruku stated.

The Cabinet Secretary's visit aligns with the government's initiative to decentralize services through Huduma Centres, which are one-stop government service points, to more counties, ensuring faster and more efficient service delivery.
