Post: Government institutions join forces to make Mandera green

In a resolute effort to combat climate change and its detrimental effects, various government institutions have united to launch a project aimed at making a greener Mandera more sustainable.

The initiative focuses on tree planting, environmental conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices to fight desertification and restore the region’s natural landscape.

Key government agencies, including Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), have committed to planting thousands of trees across the county while promoting eco-friendly policies to protect Mandera’s vulnerable environment.

This collaborative effort represents a significant step towards addressing climate change and enhancing livelihoods through environmental sustainability in the region.

Jillo Wako, the Branch Manager at KCB Mandera, highlighted the bank’s commitment to fighting desertification, particularly in schools.

Wako emphasized that the initiative would continue until Mandera achieves 100 percent forest cover, aligning with the government’s agend
a of combating climate change.

‘KCB has so far planted more than 10,000 trees in various institutions across Mandera, supporting the fight against climate change,’ Wako noted.

Mandera Secondary School Principal Noor Sheikh expressed gratitude towards institutions like KCB, stating that the trees have greatly improved the school’s learning environment, making students more comfortable and enhancing the overall education experience.

The initiative continues to gain momentum, with more organizations expected to join the green movement in Mandera.
