The national government is keen on completing stalled infrastructure projects in Siaya county, Government delivery services’ head of Nyanza and Western regions, Sylvance Osele has said.

Osele said that the government was mopping up resources to not only complete the stalled projects, but also initiate new ones that will see the region grow together with the rest of the country.

He was speaking outside Siaya county commissioner’s office after the inauguration of the National Government Development – County implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC). The committee will be chaired by county commissioner, Jim Njoka and will bring together heads of national government departments in the county.

Osele said that President William Ruto has time and again made assurance that his government was committed to ensuring completion of the projects and added that Siaya will not be left behind.

Some of the projects that have been of concern to the local residents are the stalled Got Nanga – Bar Ober and Bondo – Liunda roads, the Last Mile water connectivity in Bondo and the stalled River Nzoia bridge that connects Ugenya and Ugunja sub counties.

The Government Delivery Services boss said that the newly inaugurated committee will be tasked with ensuring timely completion of the national government projects and called for a multi-sectoral government approach to ensure success.

Siaya County Commissioner Jim Njoka said the inauguration of the committee has re-energized civil servants in the area, adding that they will be moving to the ground to ensure that the public got value for their taxes.

‘The issue of contractors doing shoddy or substandard work will not be tolerated,’ said Njoka adding ‘such contractors’ days are numbered.’

Njoka said that contractors who fail to operate within the terms of the contract will be arrested and arraigned in court.
