Post: Government Pledges Peace and Security for Kasipul By-Election

Homa bay: The government has assured to maintain peace and security during the upcoming Kasipul by-election set for November 27, 2025. Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Homa Bay County, County Commissioner Ronald Fumba Mwiwani emphasized that robust security measures will be in place to ensure a peaceful electoral process and protect voters, candidates, and the general public.

According to Kenya News Agency, the commissioner issued a stern warning against hooliganism, intimidation, and the use of goons by candidates or supporters during the campaign period. 'We will not tolerate bias or offers of preferential treatment,' Mwiwani declared. 'Our role is to provide an environment conducive for free, fair, and peaceful campaigns, allowing voters to freely exercise their democratic rights without fear.'

He further elaborated the government's stance against violence and intimidation, emphasizing that security personnel are tasked with maintaining order without favoring any candidate or political group. 'Candidates should not feel the need to employ goons or hired protectors. We will not allow any form of hooliganism or bloodshed,' he warned, adding, 'Let's ensure our campaigns are conducted with civility and maturity. Our young people have better things to do than engage in violence or petty fights.'

The county commissioner also called on political aspirants to promote peace and unity, urging them to prioritize dialogue and peaceful campaigning strategies. 'The peace we foster now will determine the maturity of our democracy. We want peaceful campaigns that reflect civility and respect for each other,' he said.

During his address, Mwiwani underscored the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the election remains trouble-free. He appealed to all stakeholders, including security agencies, political parties, candidates, and the citizens, to work together in safeguarding the electoral process.

In addition to maintaining peace, the commissioner stressed the need for improved service delivery by government officials. 'My vision during my tenure here is to ensure citizens receive government services promptly and without prejudice,' he said. 'Civil servants must be diligent and accountable as they serve the people at the grassroots. We must move out of offices to directly assist our citizens and guide them effectively.'

He warned against complacency among government workers, insisting that they need to be proactive and committed to service excellence. 'Let's serve our people with enthusiasm and dedication. Our collective effort is what will transform Homa Bay County and, ultimately, the entire country,' he stated.

Mwiwani also highlighted the government's focus on infrastructural development, particularly on the ongoing electricity connectivity project. 'In line with our theme today, the government aims to connect every household with electricity through the last-mile connectivity program,' he said. 'We are actively identifying villages without power and working with the relevant ministries to ensure access to electricity. This will enable children to learn at night, support small cottage industries, and create employment opportunities in rural areas.'

He pointed out that improved access to electricity would foster economic growth, reduce rural-urban migration, and ease the overcrowding in cities like Nairobi. 'The goal is to empower rural communities to develop their own industries and businesses,' the commissioner explained.

Furthermore, Mwiwani emphasized the importance of utilizing government infrastructure to elevate rural development. 'Our infrastructure projects, including roads, electricity, and communication, are designed to uplift our communities. We must all take advantage of these resources,' he urged.

He also reassured residents that the government is committed to transparent communication on policies and programs. 'We will hold regular public barazas to inform citizens about government initiatives and gather feedback to improve service delivery,' he stated.

As Homa Bay prepares for the Kasipul by-election, the commissioner urged residents to exercise patience, maturity, and trust in the electoral process. 'Let us remain peaceful and united,' he said. 'Our collective commitment to peace and development will ensure that Kasipul continues to grow into a model constituency for others to emulate.'
