Government Promises To Deliver Kipchoge Stadium

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised residents of Uasin Gishu that they will get an international stadium as an appreciation for the immense contribution the region has added to Kenya’s athletics heritage.

Speaking during an impromptu visit to Kipchoge stadium, which has been undergoing reconstruction for more than 10 years, Namwamba pledged that some facilities within the stadium will be completed for use during the forthcoming Devolution conference.

‘This is the county that has birthed some of Kenya’s athletics legends like Kipchoge Keino and a host of many others, hence deserves an international stadium in appreciation for its immense contribution to sports.

After the devolution conference, we shall embark on serious works that are in the long run geared at ensuring Uasin Gishu gets a state-of-the-art athletics stadium that befits its reverence, as a region that has given us such respect internationally,’ said the CS, who was accompanied by his Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum, County Executive for Sports, Eng. Lucy Ng’endo, and sports chief officer Nahum Jelagat.

Kipchoge Stadium will host the 5km Run and other races such as 100M, 200M, 400M and 800M during the Devolution Conference set for August 15-19 in Eldoret.

Namwamba lauded the Uasin Gishu County Government for closely monitoring the construction process of the stadium, reiterating that key facilities will be ready for the conference.

‘After the conference, fitting the terrace seats, installation of the canopy and a new tartan, among other deliberate interventions will kick off immediately,’ he said.
