Governor Achani Urges Parents to Monitor Children’s Activities During Extended School Holiday.

Kwale: Parents in Kwale County have been urged by Governor Fatuma Achani to closely monitor their children’s activities during the extended school holiday period. This precautionary measure aims to prevent children from engaging in behaviors that could potentially hinder their development and future prospects.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Achani emphasized the importance of parental vigilance during the holiday, which commenced on October 28, 2024, and will continue until January 3, 2025. She highlighted the risks of children engaging in criminal activities and social vices such as drug abuse, urging parents to be particularly attentive to their children’s movements and social circles. Achani warned against allowing children to mingle with peers involved in negative behaviors or fall prey to child traffickers.

The governor further stressed that children should be seen as a valuable asset and the future leaders of the nation. She cautioned against unrestricted freedom for children, which may harm
their future. Instead, she encouraged parental involvement and interaction to make home a desirable environment, steering children away from negative influences.

Speaking in Tsimba/Golini ward in Matuga Sub County, Governor Achani urged students to avoid loitering in urban centers and entertainment spots, advising them to contribute positively to their communities and families. She also encouraged the revival of reading habits and productive use of time during the holiday. Emphasizing the role of parents, Achani called for them to support their children’s educational endeavors, promote good study habits, and engage in meaningful conversations to instill discipline.
