Post: Govt Initiates Comprehensive Reforms in Broadcasting and Telecommunications Sector

Nairobi: The Principal Secretary, State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to implementing comprehensive legal, policy, and institutional reforms in the public communication and information sector. He stated that these reforms aim to enhance government strategic communication, improve service delivery, and boost citizen engagement.

According to Kenya News Agency, during a weekly meeting of Directors and Heads of Departments at Teleposta Towers, Mr. Isaboke highlighted the significant progress made in developing and finalizing key policy and legislative frameworks to guide and grow the Information, Communication, ICT, and Digital Economy sector. Notable initiatives include the Draft National Communication Policy and Government Communication Strategy (2024-2027), the National Addressing System of Kenya, and the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Bill.

Mr. Isaboke emphasized that these frameworks will provide the necessary legal and institutional foundation to modernize and strengthen the sector. He also mentioned that the reforms will create new opportunities for young professionals, particularly recent graduates, allowing them to contribute to government communication. This, he noted, will infuse innovation, creativity, and digital expertise into the system, ensuring that public communication remains responsive to the needs of citizens.

The Principal Secretary further highlighted that his office is closely monitoring the implementation of performance contracts within State Departments under the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE). Special attention is being given to the broadcasting and telecommunications sub-sectors to accelerate service delivery, enhance accountability, and align with national development goals.

Mr. Isaboke concluded by stating, 'Public communication is central to governance and development. This sector is the voice of Government. Its revival is not just about officers; it is about ensuring that Kenyans see, understand, and believe in the work we do.'
