Post: Graduates Encouraged to Empower Communities with Innovative Solutions

Eldoret: The University of Eldoret (UoE) celebrated its 14th Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025, marking a significant milestone with the conferment of Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, Master's Degrees, and the awarding of Postgraduate Diplomas, Undergraduate Degrees, and Ordinary Diplomas. The ceremony encompassed a wide range of disciplines, including Agriculture and Biotechnology, Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Management Sciences, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Natural Resource Management.

According to Kenya News Agency, the UoE Acting Chancellor, Dr Ismail Buro Hassan, emphasized the importance of the event as a symbol of achievement and transformation for the students and the institution. He urged the graduates to utilize their knowledge to serve their communities and address real-life challenges through innovative solutions. Dr Hassan highlighted the university's commitment to quality education, research, and scholarship across various fields, encouraging graduates to let integrity and innovation guide their future endeavors.

Dr Hassan acknowledged the rapid technological changes in the world, urging graduates to harness their knowledge and creativity to tackle emerging issues. He emphasized the potential of digital innovation, data-driven solutions, and scientific discovery in advancing careers and solving global challenges. Dr Hassan also stressed the importance of graduates as contributors to national development and called for their active participation in addressing complex challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and global health threats.

The Acting Chancellor further emphasized the role of graduates in strengthening institutions, inspiring new economic pathways, and enhancing essential services. He called on them to champion integrity and engage in constructive dialogue to protect democratic values. Dr Hassan highlighted the graduates' exposure to research and innovation, positioning them as creators of solutions in global policy discussions and community-driven initiatives.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, through a speech delivered by Secretary of Education Dr. Milton Njuki, reaffirmed the State Department's support for higher institutions of learning. She emphasized the importance of producing quality graduates with sustainable competitiveness in the socio-economic and political arenas. Dr Inyangala encouraged graduates to become forward-thinking entrepreneurs and leaders, urging them to think boldly, dream big, and act with courage.

Dr Inyangala also emphasized the government's commitment to supporting higher education and research, aiming to balance innovation and transformation for future generations. She urged universities to expand their training to include students from marginalized areas, supporting the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The Principal Secretary called for universities to have a broader impact beyond their gates, contributing to the realization of the transformation agenda.
