Nairobi: The Board of Management of the Nairobi Hospital has firmly denied claims of a leadership change, dismissing reports circulated on social and mainstream media a few days ago. According to the reports, the board chairman of the hospital had been affected, suggesting that Herman Manyora has taken over from the current chair with immediate effect.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during a governance retreat held in Naivasha, Dr Barcley Onyambu clarified that he remains the duly elected Chairman of the Board of Management of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA), which operates as the Nairobi Hospital. "I wish to categorically state that no changes have occurred at the helm of the Kenya Hospital Association or Nairobi Hospital and I remain the Chairman of the Board of Management," Dr Onyambu declared.
Moreover, Onyambu emphasised that any transition in leadership at the institution follows due process, which has not taken place to formalise the change in leadership at the Board. "There is no legal or court order requiring us to vacate office and the mechanisms for leadership changes exist, but they have not been triggered," he said.
However, the chairman accused certain individuals of attempting to mislead the public by pushing a false narrative, noting that those attempts are baseless. Onyambu highlighted the persistent political interference and internal disputes within the hospital, which he noted adversely affected service delivery.
"We seek to strengthen our Articles of Association and governance framework to reduce these disputes and ensure that effective healthcare services remain our core mandate," said Onyambu. He assured the public of the board's focus on enhancing clinical governance, patient safety and infrastructure, adding that the hospital maintains over 70 per cent bed occupancy and steady revenue flow.
He emphasised that the board's mission to restore the hospital to its former glory in the region will not be hindered by busybodies or those with conflicting interests. On the other hand, Kenya Hospital Association Vice Chairman, Mr Samson Kinyanjui, confirmed that attempted takeovers of the institution's leadership have been unsuccessful, affirming their mandate to safeguard the hospital's interests.
Kinyanjui said that the board has pledged continued commitment to its mandate and will not hesitate to take swift legal action against those tarnishing the hospital's name and disrupting healthcare delivery at the institution.
