Nairobi: Officials working at Narok Huduma Centre, in collaboration with Kenya Red Cross Society, have launched a blood donation drive at the Huduma Centre premises. Other partners included the Ministry of Health, Medicatia Hospital, and local media houses, resulting in over 50 samples of blood being donated.
According to Kenya News Agency, Narok Huduma Centre Manager Naserian Katampoi stated that the exercise was intended to boost blood banks in local hospitals and ultimately save lives. She emphasized that donating blood is an impactful way to assist individuals in improving their health and can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. ‘The blood we are donating today will be used to treat critically ill patients, those who have undergone surgery or complications during childbirth, and accident victims,’ Ms. Katampoi noted.
Ms. Katampoi commended the volunteers who participated in the blood donation and encouraged more members of the public to contribute. Narok Director of Health Dr. Francis Kiio highlighted the numerous benefits of blood donation, including reducing the risk of heart disease and promoting the regeneration of new blood cells. Within a few days after donation, the body replenishes the lost fluids, and the refreshed red blood cells enhance overall blood health.
Donating blood also provides donors with the knowledge of their blood group and a free basic health check-up. However, Dr. Kiio advised that pregnant mothers and individuals suffering from severe asthma, bleeding disorders, leukaemia, and HIV/AIDS should refrain from donating blood.
