Kericho: Huduma Centre Kericho is planning for a blood donation drive in Kericho town on the 17th of April 2024 in a quest to boost the County's blood bank.
According to Kenya News Agency, Huduma Centre Kericho Manager Immaculate Kimundiu stated that the 'We Got Your Back' initiative, a blood donation campaign, is being conducted at all Huduma Centers across Kenya, aiming to increase blood bank supplies and promote voluntary blood donation.
'The drive is a collaborative effort between Huduma Centers and other partners, with an objective of encouraging and facilitating blood donations to ensure a reliable blood supply for those in need, with Huduma Centers serving as accessible locations for registration and donation,' said Kimundiu.
The event which is scheduled to take place at the Huduma Centre Kericho, will be geared towards replenishing blood banks, raising awareness about voluntary blood donation, and educating the public on the importance of this noble cause.
Kimundiu further confirmed that Huduma Centre is looking forward to collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure a successful blood donation exercise, adding that during disasters, accidents, or natural calamities, there is often an increased need for blood and that such situations can quickly deplete the available blood supply.
'We are looking forward to partnering with the Kenya Red Cross Society, Rotary Club, Walter Reed and Kericho County Referral Hospital's blood donor unit, which will be very instrumental in collecting blood from donors, ensuring proper storage conditions to maintain the blood's viability, and separating it into its various components,' added Kimundiu.
According to Madam Kimundiu, by donating blood in advance or in response to such events, a donor can contribute to the preparedness and ability to provide immediate assistance to those affected.
She went ahead to urge members of the public to turn up in large numbers and volunteer to donate blood, adding that it is a critical resource for medical treatments, surgeries, and emergencies, saving lives and improving the health of patients with various conditions.
Huduma Centers, as part of the Huduma Kenya Service Delivery Programme, have made significant strides in social corporate responsibility (CSR), including expanding access to government services, promoting environmental conservation, and partnering with various organisations to enhance service delivery, particularly for underserved communities.
