Migori: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been urged to offer civic education in every ward to enable citizens to make informed decisions regarding voter registration. This call to action was voiced during a Wananchi session organized by residents of Migori town at the Migori Teacher's Training College (TTC).
According to Kenya News Agency, area residents, led by Rashid Odhiambo, noted that some youths have never voted and thus deserve to be sensitized on the importance of registering as voters and participating in the electoral process. Odhiambo emphasized that many young people are unaware of the significance of their involvement in elections, which underscores the need for comprehensive civic education.
Another resident, Peter Ouma, echoed similar sentiments, stating, "If the IEBC provides civic education, it will be beneficial to the citizens, especially the Gen Zs." He further suggested that the IEBC should actively engage with citizens by visiting registration centers and encouraging people to register.
The residents also stressed the importance of citizen participation in the electoral process and called on the Government to consider making voter registration mandatory. They believe that such measures would enhance democratic participation and ensure that every eligible citizen exercises their right to vote.
