ISIE could withdraw accreditation from certain organisations active in election field (Bouasker)

The Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) could withdraw the accreditation of certain organisations active in the election field which “now play a political role or have become political parties,” said ISIE President Farouk Bouasker in an interview with TAP.

The Authority will not tolerate the political role played by certain civil society organisations and their conversion into political parties, Bouasker argued.

He pointed out that independence and objectivity are essential conditions for being granted accreditation, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 2011-88 of September 24, 2011, on the organisation of NGOs and with all the laws governing the electoral process.

Bouasker also explained that the relationship between the ISIE and the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA) with regard to the elections had been broken off following the publication of Decree-Law No. 8 of 2023, which “explicitly cancels the issuing of a joint decision between the two authorities regarding the organisation of the campaign during the elections.”
