Post: Isiolo residents urged not to take the law in their hands

Isiolo County Commissioner, Geoffrey Omoding has urged area residents to practice restraint and desist from taking law into their hands when aggrieved.Reacting to chaos that erupted during the election of a new board for the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) at the end of the week, Mr. Omoding said it was unfortunate that lack of restraint during the event led to loss of one life.'Something very unfortunate happened during the NRT board elections where one person lost his life and another person who was seriously injured is still healing from gunshot wounds,' Omoding said.Condemning the people who took the law into their hands, Mr. Omoding said that the security organs will ensure the culprits were prosecuted.He said that some aspirants objected to the outcome of the elections and staged chaos to overturn the results which is an election's malpractice which is punishable by law once investigation are completed.'Those who knew they had lost the election, sponsored violence against their opponents and t herefore, we will take action against the perpetrators,' Omoding said.'The one who was involved in killing, a National Police Reservist (NPR) officer has been arrested and booked in court for murder,' Omoding added.He also said the NRT management should also find out why there is a trend of violence every time there were elections in the organization which is an indication that the contenders are not interested in serving the community rather than their own interests.He noted that NRT ought to mend fences and ensure there is peaceful co-existence among residents in the County.The administrator however commended the NRT for the work it is doing in terms of development and empowering the residents of Isiolo County.'We know the fund it receives from carbon credit is used to give out bursaries and development activities in the conservancies,' Omoding acknowledged.'The conservancies help in protecting wild animals, conserving the environment to prevent the advance of climate change and management of li vestock pastures to ensure there is enough throughout seasons,' he added.Source: Kenya News Agency
