Tunisia expressed reservations about Resolution n° 8987 of the Arab League Council meeting on October 11 in Cairo to discuss ways to bring a halt to Israeli aggression in Gaza and secure peace and stability in the region, an authorised source told TAP. The move is in line with President of the Republic kaïs Saïed’s instructions, the Presidency said. Tunisia’s reservations were attached to the resolution. Tunisia’s Permanent Mission to the Arab League had expressed reservations about Resolution n°8987 on an immediate halt to the Isreali aggression. President Kaïs Saïed had tasked Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar with submitting reservations regarding the Arab League resolution. The Presidency reminded, in a statement released on Wednesday night, of Tunisia’s “constant” position and said the right of the Palestinian people can by no means be suject to limitation or disappear as a result of atrocities committed by the Zionist entity. The resolution adopted during the emergency meeting of Arab League foreign ministers calls on all stakeholders “to show restraint,” while warning against the serious humanitarian and security consequences of escalation in the region. It also denounced the killing of civilians in Palestine and Israel and all actions running counter to international law and international humanitarian law. There is need to set free all civilians and detainees, lift the Gaza blockade and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, food and fuel, mainly through UN agencies, further reads the resolution.
