Kajiado: Kajiado East Member of Parliament Kakuta Maimai has urged the youth to make better use of social media and refrain from abusing leaders and giving out misleading information on the platform. Speaking in a public forum over the weekend, the legislator noted that of late, most youths are now using the various social media platforms to hurl insults at leaders which should not be the case.
According to Kenya News Agency, the legislator advised the youth to use the various social media platforms to build themselves rather than attacking leaders. He emphasized the importance of using social media wisely and profitably, highlighting its potential to open doors in business, education, and personal growth. Maimai cautioned against wasting it on insults and petty politics and urged the youth to refuse being misused by selfish politicians to attack leaders, advocating for responsibility, respect, and acting like learned individuals.
The legislator further encouraged the youth to focus on positive engagement and communication, pointing out the abundance of positivity in the world. He stressed that if the youth only focus on negatives, their lives would mirror that negativity. Maimai remarked that progress as a country is hindered if the younger generation remains fixated on negativity, when there is so much positivity to anticipate.
In a related incident last week, a teacher from Kwale, Mr. Titus Wekesa Sifuna, was released on a one million shillings bond after impersonating President William Ruto on an X account named 'I Must Go'. Sifuna is accused of publishing a photograph of President Ruto and allegedly posting derogatory content about the president and his family. Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate, Geoffrey Onsarigo, noted that Sifuna had impersonated the president and published a statement declaring 'Must Go' using the username 'I Must Go'.
