Kajiado: Kajiado residents have urged the area county government to prioritise the completion of stalled projects in the 2025/2026 financial budget. Speaking during public participation forums on the finance bill 2025/2026 organised by the county, the residents said that there are many stalled projects in the county which are turning out to be white elephants despite the expenditure of public funds.
According to Kenya News Agency, Moses Lenchasho, a resident of Matapato North, stressed that all stalled and incomplete projects should be completed first, as they represent a significant loss to the Kajiado taxpayers. Lenchasho questioned the rationale behind initiating new projects when existing ones remain unfinished for years despite being allocated funds.
Steve Okello, another resident, attributed the stalling of most projects to the non-payment of contractors by the county. He urged the county to settle outstanding debts to enable contractors to purchase materials and pay for labor, thus preventing project delays.
David Killian, another concerned resident, expressed disappointment over the influence of politics in service delivery within the county. He criticized elected leaders for abandoning projects initiated by their predecessors, resulting in a growing number of stalled initiatives. Killian emphasized that all unfinished projects should be completed regardless of their origin to avoid wastage of public funds.
One notable stalled project in the county is the Kajiado library, which was included in the county budget during former governor David Nkedianye's tenure from 2014 to 2017 but remains incomplete.
In response, Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku assured that the county would settle its debts to contractors and service providers. He acknowledged the existence of more than shs2 billion in pending bills and indicated that the 2025/2026 financial budget would allocate reduced development funds to clear these debts, ensuring fairness to those who have provided services to the county.
