Kakamega: A total of 2,200 mothers have been enrolled and fully paid under the Barasa Care 'Imarisha Afya ya Mama na Mtoto' health programme in Kakamega County. Governor Fernandes Barasa announced the significant enrolment aimed at supporting mothers throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postnatal care in the region during a speech at Malava Primary School in Malava Sub County.
According to Kenya News Agency, the programme is a key component of Governor Barasa's healthcare agenda, focusing on promoting safe motherhood. It provides financial aid to expectant and nursing mothers to ensure they have access to quality maternal and child healthcare services. Governor Barasa emphasized the programme's goal to eliminate financial barriers so that every mother and child in Kakamega County receives necessary care.
Governor Barasa encouraged more women to register for the programme and assured the residents of his administration's commitment to expanding its reach. He called on citizens to actively participate in development and support initiatives that aim to improve livelihoods, highlighting the importance of self-governance.
The event was attended by local leaders, civil society groups, religious organizations, and hundreds of residents. Barasa Care was established to tackle high maternal and infant mortality rates, reduce out-of-pocket expenses for families, and promote hospital deliveries.
