Marakwet west: Learners at Kapkitony Mixed Secondary School in Marakwet West are set to enjoy improved learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, once the construction of a modern science laboratory at the institution is completed.
According to Kenya News Agency, Marakwet West Member of Parliament (MP) Timothy Kipchumba reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education infrastructure in line with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework during the project inspection. "I am very intentional in my leadership, to ensure that our projects in the Constituency are aligned with Competency-Based Education, particularly focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)," said Mr. Kipchumba.
He noted that the laboratory will not only benefit Kapkitony Mixed Secondary School but will also serve learners from nearby institutions. "Due to the limited resources available, this facility shall, in the meantime, be utilised by the neighbouring Kapkitony Comprehensive School. This will ensure equitable access to practical learning resources, as we continue to improve school infrastructure," he added.
The area legislator lauded teachers and parents for their collaboration in supporting educational development, emphasizing that investment in science facilities will enhance learners' creativity, innovation, and practical competence.
Kapkitony Mixed Secondary School Principal, Jeremiah Kiptoo, expressed gratitude for the project, terming it a timely boost to the school's academic ambitions. "This laboratory will go a long way in helping our students grasp scientific concepts through hands-on experiments. It will greatly enhance performance in national examinations and nurture learners' interest in STEM careers," he said.
