Mombasa: The Government Spokesperson, Dr. Isaac Mwaura, has affirmed the Kenya Kwanza Administration's commitment to ensuring the equitable political and socio-economic development of all regions as President Dr. William Ruto marks 1000 days in office.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Mwaura stated that the government has initiated several projects and programs aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability among Kenyans in line with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
These initiatives are focused on creating job opportunities, improving livelihoods, and guaranteeing equitable development across all regions. They encompass social protection, infrastructural developments, the growth of trade and agriculture, and investments in tourism and education. To protect older persons aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, and people living with severe disabilities, the government recently released Sh 3.519 billion for payment to 1,759,656 beneficiaries under the social protection Cash Transfer Programme.
Each beneficiary received Sh2,000 covering the month of May 2025, ensuring that payments remain up to date. This program is a cornerstone of the government's strategy to alleviate poverty and promote the well-being of society's most vulnerable members. In agriculture, the sector is noted to be one of the fastest-growing areas of the economy, with agriculture, forestry, and fishing leading growth by 4.6 percent last year.
The growth in the agriculture sector is attributed to government actions aimed at lowering production costs and improving national food security, including the introduction of cheaper farm inputs and subsidized fertilizer under the National Fertiliser Subsidy Program (NFSP). The program has reduced fertilizer costs by more than 46 percent, contributing to improved crop yields and livestock production.
Dr. Mwaura also highlighted the 2025/2026 budget as progressive and supportive of entrepreneurship, with over Sh20 billion allocated to help young people become entrepreneurs. He acknowledged that the first 100 days were challenging, as the current administration inherited a country with financial difficulties. However, he noted improvements such as stable currency exchange rates and increased tourist numbers due to the Electronic Travel Authorization.
The administration has maintained a clean record of debt repayment, including the Eurobond, and has restructured some loans while avoiding excessive borrowing. Dr. Mwaura urged Kenyans to refrain from sensationalizing the current budget and assured that the government would enforce law and order.
