Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) Chairperson Immaculate Kabutha has been elected the Secretary General (SG) of Africa Netball to serve for a period of four years.
Speaking after the elections conducted during the continental netball governing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at a Gaborone hotel, Kabutha said that Kenya was now set to benefit from that position in developing the sport.

‘We thank God for it because Kenya will now have a say in Africa netball matters and that our ideas of developing netball structures from the grassroots all over the country will now see light of day,’ Kabutha said, adding that talks were underway with the Kenyan government for the purposes of having the right indoor sporting infrastructure across the country since netball is an indoor sport.
The Kenya Netball Federation considers this year (2023) a great year, having successfully hosted the East Af
rica Club Netball Championships in Nairobi in May and also saw Kenya’s Kabutha taking over the East Africa region’s presidency from Uganda’s Hon. Sarah Babirye Kito.
‘Netball in Kenya is now set for new changes that will start with us leaders. This continental seat is important because Kenya has been missing out in most tournaments, hence affecting our rankings-something that is now set to change,’ quipped Millicent Busolo, the KNF Secretary General, who also attended Africa’s AGM.
The 19-member AGM voted 17-2 in favour of Kabutha for the Secretary General seat. South Africa’s Cecilia Mulokwena retained her seat as President and Botswana’s Malebo Ratladia as Vice President. Martha Lungu from Zambia retained her position as Africa Netball’s Treasurer.

The Finance and Budget Committee of the Assembly of the People’s Representatives (ARP) held a hearing on Wednesday in the presence of the Minister of Education, Mohamed Ali Boughdiri.
The session focused on a bill to approve a financing agreement signed on July 10, 2023 between Tunisia and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to contribute to the financing of the schools modernisation programme.
This financing is part of the state’s efforts to provide financial resources for the development of the education sector, the minister was quoted as saying in a parliamentary press release.
He noted that this new funding would streamline the schools modernisation programme and cooperation with the EIB.
Boughdiri pointed out that the promotion of the education sector through the rehabilitation of school infrastructure and teaching requires the involvement of all stakeholders in the sector.
He underlined that the schools modernisation project is part of a national programme based on the principles of positive discri
mination between regions.
A representative of the Ministry of Education also gave an overview of the two phases of the School Modernisation Programme.
He noted that this programme will result in the establishment of 80 new primary schools, the development and rehabilitation of priority primary schools, the purchase of computer equipment and 75 school buses. Technical assistance will be provided to monitor project studies under this programme, he added.
At the end of the deliberations, the Committee decided to hear from the representative of the Ministry of Economy and Planning for more details on the financial conditions and interest rates of this loan.
