Nairobi: Kenya Power Company is set to commence the construction of a power substation at Bar Opuk village in Bondo subcounty after getting approval of members of the public to set up the project in the area. Speaking during an interview with Kenya News Agency, Siaya County Kenya Power Maintenance and Operation Manager Mr. Bernard Ochieng Kaudo revealed that the project would be established at a cost of Sh50 million.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Kaudo explained that the new step-down power substation will transform 33kv power to 11kv. With public land already secured for the project, it will cost just slightly above Sh50 million. The substation aims to solve the recurring outages and interruptions of electricity supply to Bondo town and its surrounding areas.
He stated that Bondo town and its environs have been experiencing frequent blackouts and power interruptions due to the absence of a local power substation. The new facility aims to eliminate these issues. Additionally, the substation will enable Kenya Power to connect more customers to the power grid, which was previously not feasible in the region.
The Maintenance and Operations Manager further disclosed that the Bondo facility will be the fourth substation in Siaya County, following those in Rang'ala, Nyamninia, and Siaya. These substations collectively contribute to stabilizing power in the region. He expressed gratitude to the public for approving the project and allowing its establishment in Bar Opuk, highlighting the significant benefits it will bring to the local community.
