Kericho: Kericho County has achieved a historic milestone with the commissioning of its much-anticipated in-house-generated and Cashless Revenue System at the County headquarters. Speaking during the commissioning of the cashless revenue system, Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai pointed out that the revolutionary system was a result of a collaborative effort by the County Executive, County Assembly, and the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), with the objective of enhancing efficiency and accountability in revenue collection.According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Mutai said the groundbreaking initiative underscored the county's commitment to transparency, efficiency, and financial innovation, setting a new benchmark for public service delivery in the region. He observed that having undergone a successful six-month pilot phase, the system was rated an impressive 78% by the CRA, placing Kericho among the top-performing counties nationwide. "This achievement makes Kericho the fourth county to implement s uch a system, solidifying its status as a regional trailblazer," said Dr. Mutai.The Governor was optimistic about meeting the financial year's ambitious revenue target of Ksh 1.219 billion, including Ksh 573 million in Own Source Revenue (OSR) and Ksh 646 million in the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF), projections buoyed by the recently enacted Finance Act. "To further bolster collections, the county government has submitted a proposed waiver of rates and fines to the County Assembly, aligning with the Public Finance Management Act," added Dr. Mutai.Additionally, Dr. Mutai said the new Trade Licensing Act and the implementation of the valuation roll are expected to strengthen the legal framework for revenue collection. "I urge all residents to embrace this cashless system to ensure seamless transactions and a corruption-free process," said Dr. Mutai.The commissioning ceremony was also attended by Finance CECM Jackson Rop, Leader of Majority (County Assembly) Philip Rono, Assembly Committee on Finance Ch air Weldon Rogony, and MCA Erick Bett.
