Post: Kericho Digitizes Health Facilities Under Taifa Care Rollout

Kericho: Kericho County is among the counties digitizing healthcare services under the government’s Taifa Care program, aiming to enhance efficiency, accountability, and quality of health services. The County Department of Health Services, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Digital Health Agency, has since dispatched a total of 532 gadgets to public health facilities across the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai, represented by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Health Services Dr. David Ekuwam, said the rollout makes Kericho one of the leading early adopters of digital health technology in the country. He stated the county has received 732 tablets, with medical staff trained to operate the Taifa Care Tibabu platform, enhancing digitization of patient records, streamlining hospital operations, and improving service delivery.

For instance, the Taifa Care Tibabu system integrates electronic medical records, mobile enrollment, claims processing, and real-time payments, while linking facilities through a centralized Health Information Exchange. The system also carries a track-and-trace function for medicines designed to curb counterfeit drugs, prevent stock-outs, and enhance transparency in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

The governor hailed the initiative as a milestone in his administration’s commitment to expand access to healthcare, urging all residents to enroll under the Social Health Authority (SHA). “Together, we can achieve our 70 percent coverage target and guarantee affordable, quality, and accessible healthcare for every household in Kericho,” he said.
