Post: KMPDC Launches SMS Service to Verify Healthcare Professionals and Facilities

Nairobi: In a significant move to enhance transparency and public safety, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has introduced an SMS short code service, 20547, allowing citizens to swiftly confirm the credentials of healthcare professionals and facilities across Kenya. This new service is designed to provide an accessible and straightforward method for individuals to verify the legitimacy of healthcare providers and medical establishments.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative aims to significantly enhance patient safety and reinforce compliance with regulatory standards. By providing a simple method of verification, the KMPDC is working towards protecting the public from unqualified practitioners and ensuring high medical standards throughout the country. This service also extends to the verification of medical camp registration and licensure, showcasing the council's dedication to maintaining quality healthcare services.

KMPDC CEO, Dr. David Kariuki, has emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting public health and safety. He stated, "By providing easy verification of healthcare professionals and facilities, including medical camps, we empower the public to make informed decisions about their care, enhancing their well-being and peace of mind." Dr. Kariuki further highlighted that the verification system is designed to enhance transparency and accountability, ultimately protecting the public by encouraging the use of licensed professionals for quality healthcare.

Moreover, the council is committed to ensuring that all medical practitioners and facilities comply with legal requirements. The credential verification system also aims to reduce fraud for insurance companies and strengthen compliance monitoring for regulatory agencies, offering benefits to patients and other stakeholders in the healthcare sector.

KMPDC encourages the public to utilize the toll-free SMS service to verify the credentials of medical practitioners and facilities, thereby ensuring the receipt of authorized care and enhancing the overall integrity of healthcare services in Kenya.
