Post: KNUT Official Urges Teachers to Avoid Misconduct with Students

Nairobi: About 470 teachers have been deregistered from the Teachers' Service Commission over the last five years for having inappropriate relations with their pupils, making them unsuitable to teach in any school in the country. This was disclosed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National Chair Malel Langat during the Nandi South Branch KNUT Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Kobujoi grounds today.

According to Kenya News Agency, Langat emphasized the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, urging teachers to refrain from such acts that exploit innocent learners. He stated that the union does not support such immoral behavior and stressed the need for teachers to guide students towards academic excellence.

Langat also commended the Nandi South branch teachers for upholding high moral standards and encouraged them to continue with this positive behavior to improve the education standards in their region. He further advised teachers to join SACCOs and the burial and benevolent fund, highlighting the importance of these resources in times of crisis.

Nandi South Branch Executive Secretary Stephen Misoi, in his report, praised the teachers in the region for their good conduct but acknowledged that some face challenges related to alcoholism. He appealed to the Sub County Director of Education to organize support sessions for affected teachers to promote positive behavior changes.

Misoi concluded by urging all members to continue maintaining high moral standards to enhance the image and educational quality of their Sub County.
