Nairobi: Over 1,000 residents living in Korea village in Narok Central sub-county have a reason to smile after a group of Korean missionaries drilled a borehole to benefit the community. Previously, the residents had to walk for several kilometers to access water, while others had to spend significant amounts to obtain it.According to Kenya News Agency, the Korean missionaries have also established a radio station named 'Hosanna Radio Services' that primarily spreads the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Additionally, they have built a school and a clinic in the area, aiming to support the community's access to basic needs such as water, health, and education. Peter Kang, the program director, emphasized that the borehole is a testament to the collective efforts of churches in Korea and the United States, alongside local believers.Kang noted, "We are Korean missionaries from South Korea and America. We have come together to ensure the success of these projects. We have been praying for them for 20 years now. Today we are celebrating faith, perseverance, and global Christian partnership."The first Kenyan Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Ambassador Ngovi Kitau, expressed gratitude to the Korean missionaries for their dedication and investment in the community. He remarked that the initiative has strengthened Kenya-Korea people-to-people relations. Kitau recalled that about 30 years ago, missionary Kim Chan-Kyong began holding worship services under a tree in the area. With the support of Korean supporters, he was able to build a school and a clinic, leading the Maa community to name the area 'Korea Village' in his honor.Ambassador Kitau observed that the strong relationship between the two countries has led to an influx of Koreans visiting Kenya as missionaries and tourists. Residents who spoke to the press praised the Korean missionaries for bringing hope to the area by facilitating access to education and clean water.
