Lugari: As national examinations commence across the country, Lugari Deputy County Commissioner Linet Orina has called on education stakeholders, especially parents, to foster a calm and supportive environment for candidates. Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Lugari Comprehensive School, Orina emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the smooth administration of the exams.
According to Kenya News Agency, Orina urged the community to create a stress-free environment that allows learners to focus on their exams without unnecessary noise or distractions. "The stakes are high; these exams are crucial in shaping students' futures, higher education prospects, and career paths," she stated. "It's vital that families and communities provide the right atmosphere for success during this critical period."
With schools set to close for the long holidays this week, the deputy commissioner also appealed to parents to take good care of their children, ensuring they return safe and sound in January. She emphasized the role of families in guiding and supporting students through this important time in their academic journey.
Nabii Nabwera, the area Member of Parliament, echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the need for parental involvement in children's education. He expressed concern that most active participants in school meetings and activities are women, regretting that many men have abdicated their responsibilities. Nabwera called on both male and female parents to participate actively in their children's academic affairs to ensure their success.
Furthermore, Philip Etale, ODM Party Director of Communications, appealed to residents of the diverse and cosmopolitan constituency, urging them to set aside tribal and divisive politics in favour of national unity and development. "Our focus should be on unity and progress, rather than tribal differences," he urged.
The celebrations highlighted the importance of national unity, peaceful coexistence, and education as pillars for Kenya's progress. Leaders called for peace and collaboration as the country approaches crucial national exams.
