Post: Leaders Urged to Promote Unity Among Kenyans

Kakamega: Political leaders in the country have been urged to be on the forefront in promoting peaceful coexistence among Kenyans. Speaking during a church service at Lurambi in Kakamega, a section of leaders led by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa called on politicians to desist from dividing the country, with the aim of gaining political mileage and popularity.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Governor urged Kenyans to sift messages from politicians and only accept to be led by development-focused leaders, dismissing those whose political rhetoric is meant to create division, disagreements, and conflict. He emphasized that Kenya does not have space for leaders who are tribalistic and thrive on divisive politics.

Governor Barasa stressed the importance of engaging in mature politics, where the citizenry becomes the center of focus regardless of political affiliations. National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa echoed these sentiments, noting that divisive politics has derailed development in many parts of the country and must be rejected at all costs.

Ichung'wa also warned the youth against destroying businesses and properties in the name of expressing dissatisfaction with the country's leadership. He highlighted that the youth could still express themselves without engaging in criminal activities, urging them not to harm the economy as it would impact future job opportunities.

Lurambi MP Titus Khamala reiterated the call for unity, urging Kenyans to prioritize leaders who champion national unity and service delivery. He noted that much needs to be done by leaders for the electorate to lead dignified lives.

Other leaders, including President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet, called for political tolerance and urged citizens to stand firm against any attempts to polarize the country for political gain.
