Riabai: Riabai High School is set to benefit from a modern 400-bed capacity dormitory, thanks to Hon. Machua Waithaka's MP for Kiambu town NGCDF initiative to enhance student welfare.
According to Kenya News Agency, a transformative education breakthrough aims to solve ongoing congestion issues and improve the overall academic environment at Riabai High School in Kiambu County.
Speaking during the construction kick-off ceremony, Hon. Waithaka emphasized the critical need for quality infrastructure in schools, noting that proper accommodation plays a vital role in academic performance and student wellbeing. "Today marks a new chapter for Riabai High School, for too long, our children have studied in overcrowded spaces. This dormitory will not only provide comfort but also restore dignity to our learners," said Hon. Waithaka.
The dormitory, once completed, will accommodate up to 400 students, significantly easing the strain on existing facilities which included struggling with limited boarding space, often forcing students to sleep in crowded conditions, a situation the MP says will soon be a thing of the past. "Our commitment is to ensure that no child is left behind because of poor infrastructure. This is not just about a building, it's about investing in the future," he added.
The project has been welcomed by school administrators and parents alike, who hailed the MP's dedication to educational development. Riabai High School Principal, Mrs. Grace Wanjiru, praised the initiative saying, "We are grateful to Hon. Waithaka for prioritizing the needs of our students. This new dormitory will enhance discipline, learning, and overall student morale."
The dormitory will feature modern amenities including study areas, proper ventilation, and adequate sanitation facilities aligning with the Ministry of Education's vision for holistic student support. Parents also expressed their hopefulness. James Mwangi, Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association, noted, "This dormitory is a dream come true. It shows our leaders are listening and taking action."
Construction is expected to be completed within the next eight months, with the facility opening its doors to students in the following academic year. Hon. Waithaka concluded by reaffirming his commitment to development in education, stating, "Yangu ni kazi tu. We will continue to deliver the promise."
