Lebanese Karim Samaha wins 2023 Arab mental arithmetic championship

Lebanese Karim Samaha (aged 12) won the title of Arab champion at the Arab mental arithmetic championship (2023 session) held at the headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) on Wednesday. This first edition was organised in Tunisia with the participation of 120 students from Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Sultanate of Oman and 40 Tunisian candidates. The second title in this Arab championship went to his brother Béchir Samaha, aged 13, while Dhiaeddine Zoughlech from Algeria (aged 6) took third place. In a statement to TAP, the winner of the 2023 mental arithmetic championship, Karim Samaha, expressed his pride at having won this title, which has enabled him to fly the flag for his country, stressing that this accolade is the result of daily work and perseverance over 7 years. For his part, young Béchir Samaha called on all pupils to learn mental arithmetic, given its benefits in developing intellectual skills and its impact on social and school life. Kaouthar Chelbi, director of the “International Diamonds Brain” association, said she was honoured by the successful organisation of the first session of the mental arithmetic championship in Tunisia.
