USM Alger forward, Leonel Ateba, has said his move from PWD of Bamenda to Dynamo of Douala in 2023 was necessary for him to be in the spotlight.In an exclusive interview granted to Africa Foot United, the Douala-born striker said he weighed the options and told himself that 'with the level I had attained, I could face the biggest attackers in Cameroon football, and it was necessary that I do it where there would be visibility.'He took the decision after helping the Abakwa Boys qualify for the 2023 Cameroon Cup final. He equally finished the season as the highest goalscorer of the North West club.'It is necessary for every good player to play where they will be seen' Ateba noted. 'If you score 10 goals in Bamenda, it's not the same as 10 goals in Douala' he pointed out.After joining Dynamo of Douala, his brilliance did not stop. He gradually became a lead striker for the club. His performance led to his selection for the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.Despite not playing a minute in the tournament, he rec eived offers from clubs including Tanzanian side Le Yanga FC, Al Ahly in Egypt, and USM Alger which he reached an agreement with while in Ivory Coast.He has had one season with the Algerian club, recording the highest assists (8).
