Léraba/Agro-pastoral Offensive: The level of completion of development work on irrigated areas noted by regional authorities


The governor of the Cascades region, Badaboué Florent Bazié, accompanied by the regional director in charge of Cascades Agriculture, Souobou Minyemba, came, on Saturday August 24, 2024, to soak up the level of completion of development work on irrigated areas and lowlands as well as their development for beneficiaries on the Sindou peaks site.

It is as part of the agro-pastoral and fisheries offensive that the regional authorities carried out this Saturday, August 24, 2024, a field trip to see the work of the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PRéCA), note the level progress of the work and especially the areas used for this agricultural campaign in the Cascades.

In Léraba, it was on 240 ha of exploitable area on the Sindou peaks development site that the authorities carried out their field visit after that of Comoé.

As a result, it turned out that only 21% of this area could be developed with an execution time of 54% consumed.

At this level of wintering, 218 ha have already been develop
ed, representing an achievement rate of 90.83% of the area planted.

‘From this area, 1,500 tonnes of rice are expected at the end of the harvest to contribute to the agro-pastoral offensive,’ according to an agricultural technician.

Another technician underlined that in this respect the PRéCA, an initiative of the Burkinabè government accompanied by the World Bank, provided seeds, fertilizer (NPK and urea and organic manure) to producers.

‘1,033 women and 237 men are the producers currently working on the Sindou peaks site,’ he added.

Like the head of the PRéCA branch, Athanase Ouédraogo, agricultural technicians and farmers have pointed to the silting up of the lowlands caused by the arrival of wild water as a major difficulty on this site.

The governor of the Cascades region, Badaboué Florent Bazié, expressed his satisfaction with the 90.83% of the area developed.

He recommended that the company try to adapt according to the behavior of the site and be able to resume development work as soon as the wi
ntering period ends.

For the head of the PRéCA branch, Athanase Ouédraogo, the 06 rice-growing lowlands for the agricultural offensive in the region are performing well.

As for the regional director in charge of Agriculture of the Cascades, Souobou Minyemba, asked the producers to remain attentive to the technical advisors made available to them in order to be able to respect the technical production itineraries to be more successful in this production of rice in the region.
