Post: Makueni Receives Drug Consignment for Health Facilities

Makueni: The Department of Health in Makueni has received a consignment of essential drugs to be distributed to all health facilities across the county, the Chief Officer for Health Services, Dr. Harvey Mulei, has disclosed. Among the drugs that will be distributed are those for diabetes and hypertension, antibiotics, injectables, painkillers, syrups, and paediatric drugs.

According to Kenya News Agency, the drugs will be loaded onto lorries and distributed to 16 Level Four Hospitals, the County Referral Hospital, and all health centres and dispensaries in the county. Dr. Mulei made this announcement during an inspection tour of the construction of the Maternity Wing at Sultan Hamud Level Hospital. The drugs were purchased by the County Government of Makueni from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), and collaboration with KEMSA ensures timely supply to hospitals.

During the inspection, Dr. Mulei revealed that the construction of the maternity wing at Sultan Hamud Hospital is a partnership with Safaricom and is projected to cost Sh60 million. He noted that the construction of the 50-bed capacity maternity wing, which will also serve children, is intended to be commissioned by November 2025. The Spouse of Makueni Governor, Anita Mutula, also visited the hospital to assess its progress.
