Masara Secondary School in Suna West Sub County will represent Migori County for the first time in the Nyanza Regional Boys Soccer Tournament at St. Mary’s Yala Secondary School in Siaya County.
The school got the opportunity after beating Migori’s defending champions, Kodero Bara High School, 4-2 in penalties.
The school is pooled in Group B, which consists of Kisumu Day, the Nyanza defending champions, Agoro Sare from Homabay, and the host St. Mary’s Yala.
Masara School Principal Daniel Aloka acknowledged that they are in a pool of death, bearing in mind that Kisumu Day are the defending champions of Nyanza, while Agoro Sare and St. Mary’s Yala have partnered with Harambee Star’s player Michael Olunga’s Foundation (MOFA) to source their players.
Aloka revealed that his team does not feel any pressure despite the fact that it is their first time playing in the regionals.
‘We are optimistic that the boys will make it to the finals because they have played a lot of friendly matches with different clubs, such as Migori Youths FC’, said Aloka.
The principal further added that teamwork, dedication, and hard work rewarded them, and he was optimistic that the school will do better in the Regional Championship.
Masara School Head Coach Maurice Ochome emphasised that their opponents must be vigilant, and any form of underrating may result in a shock result from this team.
‘We have a formidable team, and I have a sanguine deposition that even at the regional championship we are going to make it at least to the semi-finals,’ emphasised Ochome.
The head coach revealed that it is through self-discipline and determination that they have made it to the regional championship.
Masara Assistant Coach Kenneth Onyango also revealed that they have intensified their training to ensure that the boys get enough playing time to prepare adequately.
‘We do train our boys during game time, but the time is always limited because the boys have to attend their remedial,’ said Onyango.
The Nyanza Regional Boys Soccer Tournament will be held on July 19 at St. Mary’s Yala Secondary School in Siaya County.
