Members Of Murang’a County Budget And Economic Forum Sworn In


The members of the Murang’a county Budget and Economic Forum, appointed by the Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, took oath of office Thursday, pledging to help reclaim the economic glory of the county.

The members who are business magnates and high achieving professionals from around Murang’a county were selected by the governor in November 2023 to help drive the development agenda for the county.

The seven who were sworn in by senior Principal magistrate Edwin Nyaga at the county headquarters include Dr. Peter Munga, the founder Equity Bank, Jimna Mbaru (Businessman), Dr. SK Macharia of Royal Media Services, Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe, Dr. Felistus Njuguna, Prof. Isaack Macharia Muthuure, Amb. Mary Muthoni Gichohi and Dr. Salome Wanjiru Gitoho.

The council members said they are going to work together as a team to add value to the projects already established by the county government and help improve the livelihood of the locals by revamping the sectors of education, agriculture, entrepreneurship among others.

On his part, Munga said the members have the experience and expertise in various fields and they will pull their heads together to generate ideas that will help the county rise to the top.

‘All the members have an input to give based on their experience in their respective fields, but our common goal is to ensure the county is up on its feet again,’ remarked Munga, adding that there was a time when Murang’a used to thrive economically to an extent of lending money to the national government and they want to get there.

On his part, S.K Macharia lauded the governor for forming the council saying this is the best platform to drive the development agenda and as elders they will give their best as a team, so that the county can rise and the residents can get to realize an improved economy and development.

Mbaru, on his part applauded the county government for demonstrating the willingness to seek for advice from the elites to be able to provide effective leadership.

‘We have excelled in various fields and we a
re back to help build the county, while giving back to the society where our roots are,’ remarked Mbaru.

The Governor, on his part, said his choice of the members of the council clearly indicates that he means business for the county.

‘I picked the people from Murang’a county who went out and conquered various sectors and I would like to tap into the experience that they have gathered over the years,’ said Kang’ata.

He said the county government’s focus is on development and he intends to create an environment that will attract the best investors to the county.

‘I have a vision for this county, but there are a lot of gaps and challenges, which I believe this team will be of great help’ he added.

Kang’ata challenged all county government employees to uphold the highest levels of integrity as the members of the council are highly regarded members of the society, who would not want to be associated with any scandals.
