Meru: Kinoru Stadium in Meru Town was transformed into a place of celebration on Wednesday, as thousands of Catholic faithfuls drawn from Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties which form Meru Diocese, gathered for the ordination of their new Bishop Jackson Murugara.
According to Kenya News Agency, the stadium was filled with excitement as the faithful, government leaders, politicians, and clergy came together for the rare occasion that was last held 22 years ago when the outgoing Bishop Salesius Mugambi went through a similar ceremony. The ceremony was graced by the new Meru Governor Reverend Isaac Mutuma, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, former governors Kiraitu Murungi and Peter Munya, Members of the County Assembly, MPs, and a host of religious leaders.
Residents of Meru from all walks of life turned up in large numbers, eager to witness the spiritual milestone. However, in adherence to Catholic Church tradition and protocol, politicians were not allowed to speak during the ceremony, as the Church maintained a strict rule separating religious events from political discourse. While the politicians' presence was acknowledged later by Nyeri Archbishop Antony Muheria, the focus remained solely on the ordination process.
In addition, a spectacular display of talent from primary school children captivated the audience with dances that kept the stadium lively. Various categories of Catholic nuns also graced the occasion, bringing a touch of solemnity and devotion to the fetes. The Catholic choir uplifted people's spirits with melodious hymns that resonated through the stadium, creating an atmosphere of faith and celebration.
The ordination marks the beginning of a new era for the Meru Catholic Diocese, ushering in renewed hope and spiritual leadership. As the faithful embraced their new bishop, the day remained in memory as a divine moment of unity and blessings.
