Post: Minesec demands refund of extra fees collected from parents, warns defaulting offcials

The Minister of Secondary Education Pauline Nalova Lyonga demanded the immediate reimbursement of tuition and Parents Teachers Association's surpluses, PTA fees perceived by some secondary school officials since the start of the new school year 2024-2025. Her demands resounded on Thursday, October 10, 2024, during a videoconference meeting with all Regional Delegates of Secondary Education.Informed of the cash perception of surpluses of both fees in some secondary schools, Pauline Nalova Lyonga instructed the Regional Delegates, to provide her with a list of Principals who collected more than they should.The former UB Vice Chancellor recalled during the meeting that PTA fees are set by members of the association according to the needs of the establishment in strict compliance with the provisions of the circular of September 17, 2021, and the said fees should not go above FCFA 25,000.Tuition fees should not exceed FCFA 7 500 and FCFA 10 000 respectively for the first and second cycles in the general edu cation sector and FCFA 10 000 and FCFA for the first and second cycles of the technical education.'These fees must be paid electronically with the unique student ID. No fees should be paid in the hands of a financial agent' she insisted.The thorny issue of attendance and punctuality of personnel made available to MINESEC structures was also on the menu. Firm instructions were given for the systematic return of the punctuality and attendance form, which had disappeared from the periodic documents, its completion, and its sending to the competent services of the Ministry before the end of each month.The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, also insisted on the scrupulous respect of the above instructions transmitted to regional delegates.Source: Cameroon News Agency
