Minister of economy meets with economic operators as part of European tour [Upd 1]

Tunis: Minister of Economy and Planning Feryel Ouerghi Sebai shed light on reforms introduced in Tunisia to attract foreign investments, mainly in connection to upgrading the investment mechanims and easing support procedures.

This was as she met Friday with business leaders in several sectors in Brussels, Belgium, in the third day of a European tour on May 8-15 to promote the 21st edtion of the Tunisia Investment Forum on June 12-13.

Meetings with government officials and business leaders are scheduled as part of this six-stop trip which includes Munich, Madrid, Brussels, Paris, Lyon and Rome.

Competitive and promising sectors in Tunisia, such as the mechanical and electrical engineering industries, car and aeronautical components, pharmaceuticals, food industries and scientific research and innovation took centre stage in Brussels meetings, the ministry Saturday said in a press release.

The minister also put the spotlight on investment opportunities in renewables as part of the Public-Private partnershi
p as well as infrastructure and logostics projects.

Participants said they take interest in Tunisia as a destination for investment, considering its various assets and openness on the Euromediterranean space and the African continent.

The Tunisian economy has been making progress, they added.

The minister also met Thursday in Madrid with Spanish Secretary of State for Trade Xiana Mendez.

The talk focused on opportunities available in the two countries to boost economic cooperation, particularly investment, partnership and trade.

A working session which involved Spanish business managers was also held. This in addition to bilateral meetings with the executive directors of Tendam, a Spanish fashion company, and SANLUCAR which is operating in the sector of the production and marketing of fruit and vegetables. The aim was to urge them to participate in the Tunisia Investment Forum.

This promotional tour got underway on Wednesday in Munich. The minister and Director General of the Foreign Investment Promotio
n Agency (FIPA) Jalel Tebib held a working session with business managers of 20 enterprises active in logistics, electronic industries, car components and the digital industry.

This 21st edition of the Tunisia Investment Forum is organised by FIPA, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation.
