Tunisian cinema made its mark in Italy at the Il Cinema Ritrovato 2023 festival in Bologna by winning the Vittorio Boarini Award, founded by the Bologna Cinematheque and awarded to filmaker and producer Mohamed Challouf, and by the publication of a new book entitled “Albert Samama Chikli,” edited in Italian and English by the Bologna Cinematheque under the direction of historian Mariann Lewinsky.

Organised on June 24-July 2, the 37th edition of Il Cinema Ritrovato paid tribute to Albert Samama Chikli with a screening cycle of restored copies of films by this pioneer of Tunisian and African cinema.
