Post: Mudavadi Assures Malava Residents of Free Choice in Upcoming By-Election

Malava: The Kenya Kwanza government will not impose anyone on the people of Malava Constituency during the forthcoming Member of Parliament by-election. Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has instead asked the residents to nominate a leader of their choice who will carry on and complete projects initiated by former MP, the late Malulu Injendi.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mudavadi addressed a consultative meeting with teachers at Tande Secondary School in Malava constituency, Kakamega County. He urged the residents not to allow divisive clan rivalry to derail their unity, recalling his long-standing friendship with the late Injendi. The late Injendi had vied and won on the Amani National Coalition (ANC), which has since merged with the UDA party of President William Ruto.

Mudavadi emphasized the influential role of teachers as opinion shapers and urged them to take the forefront in key societal issues, asserting that their voices must be heard. He highlighted the government's significant investment in education, noting that the sector received 702 billion shillings in the current financial year, which represents about 25 percent of the total national budget.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also addressed claims that ongoing flagship projects in Kakamega County were tied to the forthcoming by-election, dismissing such suggestions. He stated that the government of President William Ruto is undertaking several projects across the country, including in Kakamega.

Among the projects in progress is a 2.2 billion shilling water project at Namagara, aimed at providing a reliable and safe water supply to Malava town and surrounding areas. Additionally, the completion of the level six Kakamega County Referral Hospital, which has been stalled for the last three years, is set to be undertaken by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF). The 6 billion shillings health facility's completion is being assisted by the National government following a request from the County government.
