Nambale: Nambale Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mulanya has called for protection of girl children in the community. Speaking during the commissioning of a 300-capacity storey dormitory at Elwanikha Girls Secondary School in Nambale, Mulanya emphasized the need for added security and educational opportunities for girls, who he stated are more vulnerable in the community.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mulanya highlighted the challenges faced by girls, noting that many are denied further education by their parents after completing the initial level. He stressed the importance of recognizing equal rights for both girls and boys, emphasizing that all children deserve protection. Mulanya also urged the local security team to conduct frequent patrols to address insecurity issues in the Sub County, particularly those arising from disco matanga, and called for immediate action against those involved in distributing illicit brews.
In addition to his calls for increased security, Mulanya encouraged residents to support the current government and local leaders to facilitate further development. He acknowledged the development efforts brought by the president and urged the community to work cohesively with their leaders to continue these initiatives for the benefit of children and the entire community.
Mulanya also addressed the misuse of youth by politicians, advising them against engaging in activities that cause instability and chaos. He cautioned young people about the consequences of improper social media use, warning that it could affect their future employment opportunities as employers increasingly monitor online behavior.
Nambale Sub County Assistant County Commissioner Okoth Wendo echoed Mulanya's sentiments, urging stakeholders to collaborate in improving the area's educational standards. Wendo emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for academic success and encouraged the youth to use social media for productive purposes rather than activities that could lead to insecurity.
Wendo also advised parents to utilize established channels to address any dissatisfaction with school performance, advocating for a collaborative approach with the Ministry of Education and local administration. The newly commissioned dormitory, funded through the NG-CDF, represents a significant investment in the community's educational infrastructure, costing approximately Sh20 million.
