The Narok County Government has made road development a top priority for the financial year 2024/2025.The move focuses on opening new roads, upgrading existing ones, and applying murram to improve the road network at the grassroots level.During a development tour in Trans Mara West Sub-County, Governor Patrick Ntutu emphasized the importance of this initiative while speaking to the media in Kilgoris Town.'In this financial year 2024/2025, we have agreed with County MCAs to focus on opening, upgrading, and murraming our road network,' Governor Ntutu stated.To facilitate these projects, the county government has invested Sh1.4 billion in the purchase of earth-moving machinery.'These plants and equipment will not only assist in opening new roads but also in upgrading and murraming them,' Ntutu added.Governor Ntutu said each sub-county has been equipped with a set of earth-moving machines, which are actively being used for road construction.Ntutu highlighted several key projects, including the tarma cking of a total of 15 kilometers of roads: a 5-kilometer stretch from Nairegie enkare Junction to Nairegie Centre, another 5 kilometers from Ololulunga Junction to Ololulunga Centre, and a final 5 kilometers within Narok Town, from the County Government offices towards Narok Town Prisons.Accompanied by Trans Mara West Sub county, Deputy County Commissioner Chuck Masau and MCAs from the respective wards, Governor Ntutu also commissioned the completion of the 2023/24 projects, including Nganayo and Tororek dispensaries.Ntutu noted that the use of county-owned earth-moving machines has significantly reduced construction costs, bringing the cost of building a kilometer of road down from Sh800,000-1 million to approximately Sh500,000.Governor Ntutu expressed gratitude towards the National Government for their ongoing projects within the county through the World Bank.The Deputy County Commissioner of Trans Mara West, Chuck Masau urged residents to maintain unity to continue benefiting from governmental dev elopment efforts.Geoffrey Nanka, a local resident, praised the governor for collaborating with MCAs who understand the needs of the grassroots level.The enhanced road network at the ward level is expected to ease transportation, allowing farmers to transport their goods to urban centers more efficiently.Source: Kenya News Agency
