Post: National Government Urged to Strengthen Collaboration with Counties on Key Projects

Vihiga: Leaders in Vihiga County have urged the national government to deepen its collaboration with the devolved governments so as to fast-track the completion of critical infrastructure projects across the country. Led by former Deputy Mayor of the defunct Vihiga Municipality, Jacktone Luvai, they noted that several vital roads in the county remain in dire condition and require urgent intervention.

According to Kenya News Agency, Luvai, flanked by other local leaders, cited the Majengo-Luanda road and the Shamakhokho-Serem-Gambogi road in Hamisi Sub-county as some of the key routes in need of immediate attention. "We appreciate the effort already made, but much more remains to be done. These roads are essential links for our people and must be prioritized," Luvai said.

Speaking in Vihiga Town, Luvai however commended the national government for the ongoing construction of the 20.8-kilometer Mago-Mululu-Wangulu road, currently at 15 percent completion. Upon completion, the key road, connecting Sabatia and Hamisi sub-counties, would significantly improve transport, stimulate local trade, and enhance access to health and education services. "That road had been neglected for years. Many leaders came and went without addressing our predicament, but we are grateful that the Kenya Kwanza government is finally making the dream a reality," he remarked.

Luvai emphasized that the prevailing mutual cooperation between the county administration and the government is crucial in ensuring that all other pending infrastructure projects in the county are completed on time. "A stronger partnership between the two entities is essential if we are to achieve any meaningful development. Good roads open up rural areas, reduce travel time, and enhance trade and service delivery," he added.

His remarks come amid growing calls from across the country for a better synergy between the two levels of government, especially in the implementation of flagship projects under the ruling coalition's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
