Post: NDMA and NGO Provide Essential Food Aid to Elderly in Modogashe

Modogashe: The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with International Relief for Africa, an NGO, today donated a variety of foodstuffs to more than 500 elderly families in Modogashe town, Garissa County.

According to Kenya News Agency, the food items, which included fortified rice, nutritive porridge, and sugar, were intended for the most vulnerable members of society, specifically those aged 65 and above. This initiative is part of NDMA's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. In addition to food, the two organizations also distributed umbrellas to over 100 small-scale traders working in the streets of Modogashe town. The beneficiaries, both elderly and traders, were selected by the local community.

Dr. Allan Mugambi from the NGO emphasized the program's goal of supporting the elderly, who are often overlooked. He assured continued collaboration with NDMA and other state agencies to assist these vulnerable groups. Koome Kirago, a member of NDMA's Board of Directors, praised the partnership for its commitment to aiding vulnerable individuals in society. He encouraged other donors and partners to join the effort, noting the increasing number of people in need.

NDMA CEO, Hared Adan, highlighted the organization's focus on improving water infrastructure in the 23 Arid and Semi-arid Lands (ASAL) counties where it operates. He stressed that water scarcity is the primary challenge in these regions, affecting all aspects of life. Adan asserted that resolving water access issues would significantly alleviate the problems faced by these communities. The Agency is dedicated to enhancing community resilience to withstand drought impacts, with plans to establish robust water infrastructure supported by the national treasury's budget.
