Post: New KJSA Leaders Pledge to Champion Staff Welfare

Nairobi: Members of the Kenya Judiciary Staff Association (KJSA) have elected a new leadership team to steer the association for the next three years. During the election held during the association's 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) over the weekend, Micah Miruka was elected as president of the association, taking over from Boru Wago.

According to Kenya News Agency, the new president will lead alongside Secretary General Oscar J. Soi and Treasurer Dennis Mutungi in steering the association forward. Other elected officials include Elizabeth Wahu, Gikunda Kiogora, Quincy Shisia, Jane Omasaba, and Edward Muiru, while Mohamednur Abdi, Tarsy Karambu, and Amrata Hassan were elected as trustees. The newly elected team vowed to champion the rights and welfare of judiciary members of staff during their tenure.

In his acceptance speech, Miruka pledged to prioritise improved remuneration, structured career progression, fairer transfer policies, and stronger staff representation in disciplinary matters. The KJSA president also emphasized the need for enhanced training opportunities and greater access to sports and social programmes for members. Miruka further called for unity among KJSA members and invited workers of the judiciary who had not yet joined the association to do so.

On his part, Secretary General Soi pledged to unite all the staff members and to work hand in hand with the leadership team in order to prioritise the welfare of the members. He called for the harmonisation of their manifestos and their full implementation, pledging to work in liaison with the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in an effort to enhance the terms and conditions of service for the staff members. Soi also called for cooperation and unity within the association and urged members to vividly support the leadership's agenda.

The outgoing KJSA president, Wago, congratulated the new leadership and assured a seamless transition of power. He thanked members of KJSA for the opportunity he served them and offered his support to the incoming team. Elections Board Chair, Stella Atambo, commended the newly elected team for the peaceful election process and reminded the incoming leaders on the importance of delivering on their promises.

KJSA is a registered member organisation under Societies Act CAP 108 of the Laws of Kenya and comprises non-judicial employees of the Judiciary. In the past, the association has played an important role in championing the welfare of non-judicial personnel serving in the judiciary, with the new leadership promising to work tirelessly in addressing the challenges of its members and improving their workplace.
