Biyamadoow: Wajir South Member of Parliament Mohamed Adow has commissioned a new police station in Biyamadoow, making it the eighth such facility opened in the constituency in under three years.
According to Kenya News Agency, Adow highlighted the critical need for improved security infrastructure in the region during the official opening ceremony. The area, which shares a vast and porous border with Somalia, has been vulnerable to threats, necessitating stronger security measures.
"This is the eighth police station we have established within two and a half years. Our goal is to enhance security in these border areas, which have long been exposed to threats due to their proximity to insecure regions," Adow stated.
Adow also emphasized the importance of supporting security personnel with modern housing and adequate social amenities, pointing out that many officers operate under challenging conditions. "It is our responsibility to support our security personnel by giving them decent housing. Many of them are still living in tents or iron-sheet structures that become unbearably hot during the day," he added.
Residents of Biyamadoow and the larger Wajir South region welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a significant step towards boosting security and improving working conditions for law enforcement officers. "We sincerely thank our MP for prioritising the welfare of our police officers. The establishment of these new stations has helped decongest existing camps and enhanced both operational efficiency and staff morale," remarked a local elder at the event.
The construction of police stations in remote and border regions is part of broader efforts to curb cross-border crime, enable timely response to incidents, and promote long-term peace and stability. By bolstering security infrastructure, the Wajir South legislator aims to instill confidence among residents and support government efforts to safeguard vulnerable communities.
